O evento marcou o Dia Mundial da Diabetes, comemorado em 14 de novembro.<\/p>\n<p>Na ocasi\u00e3o, a startup brasileira examinou cerca de 500 pacientes com o retin\u00f3grafo port\u00e1til Eyer, produto inovador com alta tecnologia que ser\u00e1 lan\u00e7ado em breve pela empresa. \u201cUma das complica\u00e7\u00f5es cr\u00f4nicas da diabetes \u00e9 a retinopatia diab\u00e9tica, uma doen\u00e7a assintom\u00e1tica na fase inicial e que pode causar defici\u00eancia visual grave ou at\u00e9 cegueira quando n\u00e3o diagnosticada precocemente\u201d, explica o cofundador e CTO da Phelcom, Diego Lencione, que representou a empresa e participou ativamente dos sete dias de mutir\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Mais de 18 milh\u00f5es de pessoas possuem a diabetes no Brasil. O n\u00famero pode ser maior, pois muitos casos ainda n\u00e3o foram identificados. \u201cHoje, quase 85% das cidades brasileiras n\u00e3o possuem acesso a oftalmologistas e aparelhos oftalmol\u00f3gicos que ajudam no diagn\u00f3stico da doen\u00e7a e suas complica\u00e7\u00f5es.
