Imagine regenerar o nervo \u00f3ptico danificado com terapia gen\u00e9tica? E, assim, conseguir recuperar pacientes com glaucoma?<\/p>\n

Uma pesquisa realizada pela Universidade de Cambridge (Reino Unido) alcan\u00e7ou resultados promissores neste sentido. Por meio de terapia gen\u00e9tica, os cientistas reabilitaram as fibras nervosas danificadas dos olhos. O estudo foi publicado recentemente na revista Nature Communications<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A pesquisa<\/h2>\n

Os pesquisadores da Universidade de Cambridge (Reino Unido) empregaram uma t\u00e9cnica de terapia gen\u00e9tica para estimular o crescimento do n\u00famero e da atividade da prote\u00edna protrudina no olho e no nervo \u00f3ptico in vitro.<\/p>\n

Primeiro, os cientistas cultivaram as c\u00e9lulas em laborat\u00f3rio. Depois, provocaram les\u00f5es nas c\u00e9lulas nervosas (ax\u00f4nios) com laser. Por fim, introduziram o gene e acompanharam as altera\u00e7\u00f5es com um microsc\u00f3pio.<\/p>\n

O estudo foi realizado em ratos.<\/p>\n

Resultados<\/h2>\n

Os cientistas notaram que, quanto mais aumentava a quantidade da prote\u00edna protrudina nessas c\u00e9lulas, maior era a regenera\u00e7\u00e3o dos neur\u00f4nios da retina. Al\u00e9m de melhorar o crescimento, a protrudina tamb\u00e9m diminuiu a chance de morte das c\u00e9lulas nervosas.<\/p>\n

A investiga\u00e7\u00e3o demonstrou uma \u201cprote\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d quase completa das c\u00e9lulas nervosas crescendo numa cultura de c\u00e9lulas de uma das cobaias.<\/p>\n

Desse modo, essa prote\u00edna pode ajuda a curar ou ao menos reduzir les\u00f5es no nervo \u00f3ptico. E, assim, auxiliar na prote\u00e7\u00e3o contra o glaucoma no futuro.<\/p>\n

Vale ressaltar que ainda s\u00e3o necess\u00e1rias mais pesquisas para que seja poss\u00edvel desenvolver tratamentos eficazes para humanos.<\/p>\n

De fato, os resultados do estudo com terapia gen\u00e9tica s\u00e3o promissores. Ainda mais quando lembramos que, no passado, parecia imposs\u00edvel descobrir uma forma de regenerar o nervo \u00f3tico lesionado.<\/p>\n

Realmente, essa pesquisa d\u00e1 esperan\u00e7as. Entretanto, muitos testes ainda precisam ser feitos em ratos, primatas e em humanos antes de definir um tratamento eficaz. E isso levar\u00e1 alguns anos para chegar \u00e0s m\u00e3os da popula\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n
