Imagine voltar a enxergar ap\u00f3s 16 anos? Pois foi isso o que aconteceu com uma mulher na Espanha.<\/p>\n

A deficiente visual Bernardeta Gom\u00e9z, de 57 anos, utilizou um \u00f3culos conectado ao c\u00e9rebro desenvolvido por cientistas da Universidade Miguel Hernandez e da Universidade de Utah, em parceria com o Hospital IMED Elche, da Espanha.<\/p>\n

O dispositivo ainda est\u00e1 em fase de testes, mas j\u00e1 apresenta resultados promissores. Portanto, veja neste post como o novo aparelho permite voltar a enxergar, como foi realizado o estudo e quais s\u00e3o os pr\u00f3ximos passos para auxiliar ainda mais pessoas que sofrem com cegueira.<\/p>\n

A pesquisa<\/h2>\n

Os pesquisadores criaram um \u00f3culos equipado com uma c\u00e2mera que envia as imagens captadas, por meio de sinais eletr\u00f4nicos, a um computador. Em seguida, o computador manda esses sinais para um dispositivo com 100 eletrodos, implantado na parte traseira do c\u00e9rebro do paciente. \u00c9 neste local que est\u00e1 o c\u00f3rtex visual.<\/p>\n

Para voc\u00ea entender melhor, o aparelho funciona como o implante coclear, que possibilita ao deficiente visual escutar sons.<\/p>\n

Os eletrodos foram colocados no c\u00e9rebro da primeira volunt\u00e1ria Bernardeta G\u00f3mez, por meio de cirurgia. A espanhola ficou cega aos 42 anos, devido a uma neuropatia \u00f3ptica t\u00f3xica.<\/p>\n

De fato, h\u00e1 outros estudos nessa \u00e1rea. Por\u00e9m, esse \u00e9 o primeiro a n\u00e3o usar os olhos e nervos \u00f3pticos para o paciente voltar a enxergar. Nesta pesquisa, os cientistas levaram em considera\u00e7\u00e3o que muitas les\u00f5es ocorrem no sistema nervoso que conecta a retina. Ou seja, n\u00e3o necessariamente no globo ocular.<\/p>\n

Os resultados<\/h2>\n

No final de 2018, Bernardeta conseguiu ver ap\u00f3s 15 anos. A sua primeira palavra foi \u201call\u00ed\u201d \u2013 ali em portugu\u00eas, em refer\u00eancia ao que percebeu a sua frente. De fato, a vis\u00e3o ainda \u00e9 emba\u00e7ada, com pontos e formas brilhantes, nos tons brancos e amarelos. Mesmo assim, ela foi capaz de reconhecer pessoas, luzes, letras e objetos pr\u00f3ximos.<\/p>\n

Os testes duraram seis meses, com a paciente frequentando o laborat\u00f3rio quatro vezes por semana. Ap\u00f3s esse per\u00edodo, ela passou por um novo procedimento para a retirada do implante. Isso porque o dispositivo ainda n\u00e3o tem aprova\u00e7\u00e3o para utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o em longo prazo.<\/p>\n

O estudo continuar\u00e1 com a realiza\u00e7\u00e3o de experimentos em mais cinco pacientes cegos nos pr\u00f3ximos anos. Al\u00e9m disso, os pesquisadores est\u00e3o procurando mais volunt\u00e1rios.<\/p>\n

Vale ressaltar que o dispositivo tamb\u00e9m foi testado em animais, como gato e macaco. Por\u00e9m, n\u00e3o foi poss\u00edvel mensurar o que eles conseguiram enxergar.<\/p>\n

Conclus\u00e3o<\/h2>\n

De acordo com a Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o Mundial de Sa\u00fade (OMS), a cegueira atinge cerca de 40 milh\u00f5es de pessoas no mundo todo. S\u00f3 no Brasil, s\u00e3o 6,5 milh\u00f5es de pacientes com algum tipo de defici\u00eancia visual. Destes, 582 mil s\u00e3o cegos.<\/p>\n

Logo, voltar a enxergar \u00e9 um sonho de muitas pessoas. E tamb\u00e9m o desafio de muitos cientistas.<\/p>\n
