Voc\u00ea sabia que a febre amarela pode afetar os olhos? \u00c9 isso que a pesquisa realizada pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) identificou durante os dois surtos da doen\u00e7a no sudeste do Brasil, entre 2017 e 2018. O estudo foi publicado na revista Jama Ophthalmology<\/a>, da Associa\u00e7\u00e3o M\u00e9dica Americana, em junho.<\/p>\n

Al\u00e9m de alterar a parte branca dos olhos, tornando-a bem amarelada, o estudo diagnosticou retinopatia em pacientes com febre amarela.<\/p>\n

Com toda a certeza, o trabalho aponta para uma poss\u00edvel correla\u00e7\u00e3o entre as doen\u00e7as, at\u00e9 ent\u00e3o desconhecida. Por isso, entenda neste post como os cientistas encontraram a conex\u00e3o, como foi realizada a pesquisa e quais s\u00e3o os pr\u00f3ximos passos.<\/p>\n

A pesquisa<\/h2>\n

O estudo in\u00e9dito feito pela Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) analisou o quadro de 94 pacientes com ind\u00edcios de febre amarela. Os dados foram fornecidos pelo Hospital Eduardo de Menezes, em Belo Horizonte. A investiga\u00e7\u00e3o ocorreu ap\u00f3s o surto que atingiu 1.376 pessoas e provocou 483 mortes, entre julho de 2017 e junho de 2018, segundo o Minist\u00e9rio da Sa\u00fade.<\/p>\n

Todos os pacientes realizaram o exame de fundo de olho para verificar se havia danos na retina devido \u00e0 doen\u00e7a.<\/p>\n

Os resultados<\/h2>\n

Ao todo, 64 pessoas foram diagnosticadas com febre amarela. Destas, 20% apresentaram quadro de retinopatia. No entanto, os pesquisadores observaram que o dist\u00farbio n\u00e3o afetou a m\u00e1cula, a parte mais importante da vis\u00e3o. Ou seja, os pacientes n\u00e3o sofriam com os sintomas mais comuns da retinopatia, como altera\u00e7\u00f5es na vis\u00e3o.<\/p>\n

Por\u00e9m, as les\u00f5es na retina estavam associadas a alguns biomarcadores laboratoriais, como n\u00famero mais baixo de plaquetas, aumento de bilirrubina, creatinina, lactato e at\u00e9 da aspartato aminotransferase, enzima produzida no f\u00edgado. Todas est\u00e3o relacionadas \u00e0 doen\u00e7a sist\u00eamica mais grave. Isto \u00e9: a retinopatia indicava a gravidade da febre amarela.<\/p>\n

A febre amarela \u00e9 uma infec\u00e7\u00e3o provocada por um v\u00edrus e transmitida por mosquitos. Dentre os seus principais sintomas, est\u00e3o febre, dores musculares, dor de cabe\u00e7a, perda de apetite, n\u00e1useas e v\u00f4mito, fraqueza e vermelhid\u00e3o no rosto, olhos e l\u00edngua.<\/p>\n

Al\u00e9m disso, a febre amarela pode afetar os olhos nos casos mais graves. Dessa forma, causa icter\u00edcia (amarelado na parte branca dos olhos) e les\u00f5es na retina, como retinopatia. J\u00e1 as altera\u00e7\u00f5es mais comuns entre os pacientes com retinopatia foram oclus\u00f5es microvasculares, resultando em infartos da camada de fibras nervosas da retina. Tamb\u00e9m foram observadas hemorragias superficiais e outras les\u00f5es retinianas mais profundas.<\/p>\n

Conclus\u00e3o<\/h2>\n

De fato, a pesquisa mostra que a febre amarela pode afetar os olhos como ind\u00edcio da gravidade da doen\u00e7a. Para isso, causa a retinopatia, al\u00e9m da icter\u00edcia. Dessa maneira, o exame de fundo de olho (simples e n\u00e3o invasivo) pode ajudar no melhor entendimento da doen\u00e7a. Outra vantagem \u00e9 o encaminhamento mais r\u00e1pido para tratamento adequado.<\/p>\n
