Diversos estudos j\u00e1 demonstraram que a retina pode revelar doen\u00e7as que afetam outras \u00e1reas do corpo. Por exemplo, pesquisadores dos Estados Unidos desenvolveram um programa baseado em intelig\u00eancia artificial (IA)\u00a0que pode detectar ind\u00edcios da doen\u00e7a de Parkinson em exames da retina<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recentemente, um estudo publicado na revista\u00a0British Journal of Ophthalmology observou, por meio de IA, que pacientes com retinas que envelhecem mais r\u00e1pido podem sofrer com diferentes problemas de sa\u00fade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trabalhos recentes tamb\u00e9m indicaram que biomarcadores em imagens da retina, como densidade ou tortuosidade dos vasos sangu\u00edneos, podem identificar pacientes com risco de doen\u00e7a arterial coronariana.\u00a0Desse modo, cientistas do Reino Unido criaram uma rede digital baseada em IA para prever o risco de infarto atrav\u00e9s de exames de retina e dados demogr\u00e1ficos dos pacientes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Olhos e infarto: pesquisa e resultados<\/h2>\n

Pesquisadores da Universidade de Leeds, no Reino Unido, treinaram um sistema de IA para estimar a massa e o volume diast\u00f3lico final do ventr\u00edculo esquerdo da retina com o objetivo de encontrar biomarcadores de doen\u00e7a card\u00edaca.<\/p>\n

Usando apenas imagens da retina e dados demogr\u00e1ficos dos pacientes, foi poss\u00edvel antecipar em um ano o diagn\u00f3stico de infarto do mioc\u00e1rdio. A IA alcan\u00e7ou precis\u00e3o entre 70% e 80%. Desse modo, o exame de retina pode ser uma segunda op\u00e7\u00e3o para detec\u00e7\u00e3o de problemas card\u00edacos cardiovasculares.<\/p>\n

Atualmente, as doen\u00e7as do cora\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00e3o diagnosticadas por ecocardiograma ou resson\u00e2ncia magn\u00e9tica, exames com custos muito mais altos em compara\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 fundoscopia. Al\u00e9m disso, a doen\u00e7a foi respons\u00e1vel por 30% dos \u00f3bitos no Brasil no \u00faltimo ano, de acordo com a Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia (SBC).<\/p>\n

\u201cAs varreduras de retina s\u00e3o baratas e rotineiramente usadas em muitas cl\u00ednicas de oftalmologia. Como resultado da triagem automatizada, os pacientes com alto risco de adoecer podem ser encaminhados para servi\u00e7os card\u00edacos especializados. Assim, essa t\u00e9cnica pode revolucionar o rastreamento de doen\u00e7as card\u00edacas, que s\u00e3o a principal causa de morte precoce em todo o mundo\u201d, ressalta o supervisor da pesquisa e professor da Universidade de Leeds, Alex Frangi.<\/p>\n
